Yahoo taking Cox Mail
Should Cox be responsible to it's customers, to see that YAHOO is doing a decent job of taking over the Cox Accounts and ensuring that their system is working? I converted account # 1 over, and am NOW seeing this error - Unable to send or receive messages for the Cox (doug1680) account. Header download for the 'Software Licenses' folder did not complete. Server Response: Your IMAP command could not be sent to the server, due to non-network errors. This could, for example, indicate a lack of memory on your system. Server: 'imap.mail.yahoo.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F Protocol: IMAP Port: 993 Secure(SSL): Yes Well - AND - I don't think I am running low on memory, NOR do I think my DISK is low on space. After spending a good deal of time and effort trying to make Thunderbird get along with Yahoo, I finally figured it out. If you are reading this, you have probably already called Cox only to find out that they have washed their hands of the whole email thing and will only refer you to a phone number for Yahoo. And of course Yahoo is not set up to handle this, so you will wait in the phone queue for half of forever only to find out that they don't know how to set it up either. So in the hope that my experience may help some other poor slob, I present the below instructions, and I hope it helps. I am using the Thunderbird program to access emails on a Windows computer, however I suspect the settings will be the same for anyone using Thunderbird. First, to transfer the emails to Yahoo and establish a webmail account, follow the directions provided by Cox as regurgitated here: "Visit mail.yahoo.com/login and enter your complete cox.net email address, including the Cox.net suffix, as your username. Then enter your current Cox password, and accept the Yahoo Mail Terms of Service. Upon signing in, you’ll set up a new password for your new Yahoo account." Now log out of the Yahoo webmail and open Thunderbird. I have my email accounts and corresponding folders located in a column on the left of the page. Yours may be set up differently, but mine is the default and I will base detailed instructions on that. Go to the left column and click on the line that shows your complete cox email address. If you have multiple addresses, you will need to perform the following instructions for each of them. Now look to the top right of the new page and click on "account settings". At the bottom of the settings page is the line "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", and at the far right of that line is a box that says "Edit SMTP server"; click on it. A pop-up window will open, adjust the settings as shown below: Description: COX Server Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 User Name: your user name, duh click OK Now go back to the left hand column and click on "Server Settings". On this page the settings will be as follows: Server Name: imap.mail.yahoo.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 Now close Thunderbird and reopen it. You will now be asked for a password for each of your email addresses. Use the new password that you used to set up the Yahoo webmail. Congratulations you have mail! If you want to use POP instead of IMAP I suggest you first set it up with IMAP and then go back and change the setting after you know it is working.224Views0likes5CommentsE-mail Transition to Yahoo! is a Mess!
Received two e-mails about Cox's transition of my e-mail account to Yahoo. Last one received March 6th that included transition FAQs (very few). As I use Outlook to access my e-mail, I noted the statement that said if I use a third-party app to access my e-mail I'd receive a follow-on e-mail with instructions to reconfigure Outlook. Well today Outlook is being rejected by Cox servers, or lack of, and I don't have any instructions on configuring Outlook to access Yahoo! using POP. I was under the impression the move to Yahoo would work with the same features or more as it did with COX. Why wasn't my COX account configured as it was when it was with COX? I had my email configured to be forward to another account. I can't find in the settings how to do that. From reading I believe mail forward is only in their Premium Mail which is paid for. As a COX customer will COX be correcting this as part of the transfer so COX customers will receive the same level of service they had with no additional cost? I have been missing several emails since the recent move until I noticed the FORWARD was not happening. Please advise, Ken172Views0likes8CommentsWorse service
Cox has the worse service in the world I pay over $200 for **bleep**ty service every night for the last 10 days my service keep cutting in and out. I recently posted a question about an equipment update from COX. A moderator, DannyS replied that the update involved new Tuning Adaptors. Strangely, DannyS disabled replies, so I'll start another thread with my follow up questions. As stated in the original post, my tuning adaptors were updated about a year ago. Are you really going to update them again or is this an error. I finally got a hold of a real person at Cox. She stated that the update involves new Cable Card, not Tuning Adaptors. She seemed to know what she was doing and was fully aware of the fact I had new tuning adaptors. She has send me two now cable cards. So... What's really going on? This is my second day of having no internet access. I'm stunned that Cox finds it acceptable to refuse to even speak with customers calling about it. Their message said they don't have any idea as to when service will be restored. My concern is that if Cox doesn't have a clue as to the nature of the problem or any timeline for its fix, who does? This truly doesn't seem like a good way to run a circus! I’ve been having issues with my wifi for the past 3 days. It went from spotty to nonexistent. The light on the router keeps flashing, switching from flashing orange for a few minutes to flashing a white/green color for a few minutes and so on.
