Cox Promotes Steve Necessary to Lead Product Development

ATLANTA – Dec. 10, 2015 – Cox announced today that it has tapped company veteran Steve Necessary to lead product development and management for the organization.

In his new executive vice president role, Necessary is responsible for all product development and life cycle management across residential and commercial businesses, reporting directly to Cox President Pat Esser.

Necessary previously served as vice president of video product development and management and has led the broader organization in an interim role for the past several months.

"Steve has done a tremendous job leading the product team on an interim basis, driving the rapid expansion of residential Gigabit Internet, transition to all digital video service and the recent launch of the new Contour TV," said Pat Esser, president, Cox Communications. "He and the product organization will continue to push for more rapid development cycles to deliver more choice and capabilities to help our customers connect to the things they care about most."

Prior to joining Cox in January 2005, Necessary served as president of the Video on Demand division of Concurrent Computer Corporation. Previously, he spent more than 20 years with Scientific Atlanta and held several senior management positions in marketing and general management before becoming CEO of the company's PowerTV software subsidiary.

Necessary is a member of Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM), the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and is on the board of directors for InDemand. He is an emeritus member of the board of the Atlanta Ballet and Christians in Cable and is active in Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church.

He received a bachelor's degree in engineering economic systems with highest honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. Steve and his wife Debbie have three daughters and two grandchildren.
