Cox Partners with Local Baton Rouge TV Stations to Offer Residents Temporary Out of Home Access to Television and Information
Cox customers can now access live, local broadcast news from wherever they are with the Cox Contour App

BATON ROUGE – Today, Cox Communications announced a partnership with local broadcasters in its Baton Rouge service area to offer temporary and unprecedented out of home TV access to its customers who were displaced or impacted by the historic flood. This is in addition to the up to 50 cable networks such as HGTV, Weather Channel, Travel and MTV that Cox customers already have access to through the Cox Contour App.

"We understand the importance of communication during this time," said Anthony Pope, senior vice president and region manager of Cox Southeast. "Cox is proud to be working with local broadcast partners for the first time ever to provide customers a way to view their local news, weather and entertainment outside of their home as they recover from one of South Louisiana's worst natural disasters."

"Now, thousands of area residents who are displaced by the storm will have access to important local updates, while also enjoying some of their favorite cable TV programming," Pope continued. "We hope this additional TV access will help keep customers connected during this difficult time."

Effective immediately, customers can view live, local broadcast feeds via the Cox Contour App. From now through September 16, Cox TV customers can view ABC (WBRZ), NBC (WVLA), CBS (WAFB), Fox (WGMB) and CW (WBRL) from any internet source on their tablet or phone via the Cox Contour App, even if away from home. These live streams are also available on computer at

No cable TV receiver is required as the service will be streaming from any mobile device. Customers can download the Cox Contour App for Apple or Android devices via the App Store or Google Play. Once the apps are downloaded, customers can simply sign in with their primary Cox User ID and password for access. If they don't have a User ID and password, they can get them at

The Contour App also includes cable channels with an option for out of home viewing, based on a customer's level of TV service. Channels with out of home viewing include: HGTV, Food, Epix, DIY, Comedy Central, CMT, Cooking, Travel, TV Land, Weather, Nick, Nick Jr, teenNick, Spike, CSPAN, CSPAN 2, CSPAN 3, MTV, VH1, BET, BET Jams, beIn Sports, beIN sports in Espanol, indiePlex, retroPlex, Logo, MTV Hits, MTV Live, MTVU, Tennis Channel, plus all Starz channels. Of course, customers can also use WatchESPN, Fox Sports Go, NBC Live, and other apps to watch live content out of home, using their Cox log-ins credentials.

In addition, TV apps from networks like ESPN, CNN, TNT and FX are always available to view outside the home based on the level of a Cox customer's TV subscription. A full list of apps and download access is available at The out of home capabilities will not work with services that are paused as part of the Cox Storm Recovery package.

Customer Advisories:

  • While cleaning your property, do not place debris next to or on top of Cox pedestals. Keeping pedestals clear allows our crews to repair and replace cables.

  • All of our technicians, whether employee or contractor, must display a Cox logo badge at all times. Also, the vehicle in which the technician will be operating will have the large Cox logo or a contractor magnet which will display the contractor company name along with the Cox logo.

Reasons why customers might not have cable services despite having power:

  • Although you may have never lost power to your home, the node (power source) that provides Cox services to your neighborhood may have been damaged and/or lost power. Power could also be out between the "'node" and your home.

  • Also, the energy power path to your home may not mirror the power path of our telecommunication services to your home. Power and cable can be independent of one another.

  • The cable drop (aerial line) to your home may have been damaged.
