ATLANTA - Joe Rooney has been named Chief Marketing Officer of Cox Communications, Inc., in recognition of his responsibilities in building a first-class marketing organization and his leadership in the industry. The announcement was made by President Patrick J. Esser.
"Joe was the first in the industry to successfully market the triple play of voice, video and Internet," Esser said. "His focus on marketing sciences has refined our efforts, resulting in more targeted, effective marketing and impressive RGU growth. Through the creation of Digital Max and our promise to be our customers' friend in the digital age, Joe has solidified our relationship with consumers and reinforced that Cox is the right choice for all of their telecommunications needs. This addition to Joe's title also recognizes his leadership in the industry, where Joe serves as chair of the CTAM national board of directors, as well as co-chair of SkiTAM, the non-profit fund-raising organization for the US Disabled Ski Team.
Rooney has 25 years of experience in the cable industry, including 20 years with Cox. He has overseen Cox's national marketing, sales, branding, marketing sciences and research since 1999, when he joined the Atlanta headquarters from the Cox Orange County, Calif., cable system. He was named Senior Vice President of Marketing in 2002.
Rooney was the 2004 NCTA Vanguard Award winner for Marketing. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa.
