ATLANTA - Cox Communications today announced that it has increased the WebMail storage space available for all customers and completed dramatic speed increases in the majority of its markets. Cox plans to continue enhancing its service offerings through an improvement initiative currently underway.
"The way people use their Internet connection is changing, and Cox is giving our customers all the speed they need to download more music and videos than ever before," said Steve Gorman, Cox's vice president of marketing & management for Cox High Speed Internet. "Cox's hybrid fiber-coax network gives us the flexibility and bandwidth necessary to evolve our offerings and stay one step ahead of the trends."
The most recent round of speed increases are automatic and effective today in the majority of markets; customers do not need to do anything except enjoy faster downloads. Cox High Speed Internet customers can now enjoy these speeds where available:

In addition to the speed increases, Cox also quadrupled the storage amount available for all its high-speed Internet customers who use its email service, which includes free WebMail service. Storage was boosted from 250 MB to 1 Gigabyte per mailbox. Cox is also trialing an enhanced newsgroup service that offers users a number of new features, including faster transfer speeds and longer storage of newsgroup posts.
"Cox continues to build on our history of innovation and service enhancements," said Chris Bowick, senior VP of engineering and CTO. "While some telecom companies are just talking about offering faster download speeds along with video and phone service sometime in the future, Cox is actually delivering these advanced services today in markets from coast to coast."
Cox is continuing to enhance its state-of-the-art network through an improvement initiative currently underway in several markets. This initiative will further increase Cox's network capacity so, as technology advances, the company can continue to expand and integrate its suite of entertainment and communications services. Cox's next generation of services currently does or will include integrated television, Internet and phone features, new interactive television, On Demand services, more high definition offerings and even faster broadband speeds.
