Cox Communications Completes Purchase of Cable America’s Arizona Cable Systems

Cox Communications, Inc. and Cable America Corporation today announced the completion of Cox's purchase of the Arizona operations of Cable America. This acquisition includes approximately 35,000 basic cable subscribers. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The transferred cable systems are contiguous to Cox's Arizona cable operations, which now serve more than 1 million customers in 42 communities in Phoenix and Southern Arizona. The agreement includes cable television systems in Mesa, Florence, Wickenburg, Queen Creek, Coolidge and Gila Bend, as well as Maricopa and Pinal Counties.

"With this acquisition, Cox continues to focus the execution of our winning bundling strategy in highly clustered markets," said Claus Kroeger, senior vice president of operations for Cox Communications' western division. "The Cox brand is already highly respected and successful in Arizona, thanks to the outstanding customer service delivered by our local employees. We are excited to offer Cox's bundle of video, Internet and telephony services to more Arizona citizens."

Cox's customers in the former Cable America properties will enjoy a smooth transition to their new provider over the next several months.

"Cable America has been proud to provide excellent service at reasonable prices to its customers since its inception in 1971," said William G. Jackson, president of Cable America. "We are pleased to know that our Arizona customers will be able to enjoy cable services from Cox Communications, a company that shares our commitment to outstanding customer service. Cable America looks forward to continuing to provide outstanding customer service in its telecommunications operations in other states."
