Cox Names New 2005 Telephone Markets

ATLANTA – August 1, 2005 – Cox Communications Inc. today officially announced it will launch Cox Digital Telephone in Las Vegas, Macon, Ga., Central Fla.*, Gulf Coast*, Fla. and Topeka, Kansas before the end of 2005.

As the largest cable telephone service provider in the nation, Cox's addition of these locations increases its total number of telephone markets to 22, or 70 percent of Cox's total footprint by year-end. Based on the great success Cox has already experienced with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology in five of its existing telephone markets, the company will also deploy phone service via VoIP technology in Las Vegas, Macon, Central Florida, Gulf Coast and Topeka.

Since 1997, Cox has long provided Enhanced 911 (E911) service as a standard feature in all of its telephone markets, enabling the company to deliver a subscriber's location and call back number automatically to local 911 emergency services personnel. Cox Digital Telephone is a lifeline service with more than 1.4 million residential customers and 140,000 business locations.

Cox's other telephone markets are Orange County and San Diego, Calif.; Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.; Omaha, Neb.; Central Connecticut.; Rhode Island statewide; New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette, La.; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla.; Wichita, Kansas; West Texas (including five geographically dispersed locations: Lubbock, Amarillo, Midland, Abilene and San Angelo); and Hampton Roads, Roanoke and Northern Virginia. ,/p>
