Cox Communications Enhances Digital Video Recorder Service with High Definition Recording Capability and New Functionality

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2004--Cox Communications, Inc. (NYSE: COX) today announced that customers can now record and play back their favorite high-definition programming with the availability of high-definition digital video recorder service via the Scientific Atlanta 8010 HD set top box. The service, currently available in its San Diego market, will soon launch in Gulf Coast and Gainesville, Fla., and Santa Barbara, Calif., Phoenix, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, North Carolina and Northern Virginia markets.

In addition, current DVR customers will soon enjoy new functionality with their DVR service from Cox. In addition to current DVR technology and the ability to record and playback high-definition programming, Cox DVR enhancements will include:

    --  Recording Space Used Indicator - Customers can view recording
        space used/available.

    --  Auto Erase Oldest Recordings - Allows customer to set DVR to
        automatically erase the oldest recordings to make room for new
        recordings.

    --  Enhanced "All Episode" Recording - Provides additional options
        to record new episodes or all episodes of a program.

    --  Copy to VCR function - Allows customers to copy a recording to
        a VCR while watching or recording another channel.

Customers can enjoy the flexibility of leasing their HD DVR set-top box from Cox and avoid upfront equipment costs. Cox's HD DVR service is available to customers for $9.95 per month, plus the lease price of the integrated high-definition digital set-top box with DVR functionality for $9.95.

With Cox DVR, customers can record up to 80 hours of television programming. Available recording space varies based on the type of programming recorded. In order to subscribe to the HD DVR, customers must have an HD capable or an HD ready television that can receive a 1080i or 720p HD signal format and must subscribe to Cox Digital Cable.

Cox also offers its customers the opportunity to bundle home entertainment and communications services from one provider. By bundling services with Cox, customers can increase their convenience and value with bundling discounts.
