ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2003--Cox Communications, Inc. (NYSE: COX) today shared additional results, as of end of first quarter 2003, for its telephone and bundled offerings.

As reported May 5, Cox ended the first quarter of 2003 with 782,546 Cox Digital Telephone subscribers representing 52 percent growth over the same period prior year. The company also reports:

  • 77 percent of Cox Digital Telephone customers chose Cox's long distance service offerings over competitors.
  • Feature package penetration stands at 39 percent, up from 29 percent in the prior year.
  • 47 percent of Cox Digital Telephone customers purchase a full bundle of voice, video and data services from Cox.
  • Over 40 percent of Cox's homes passed can order the company's telephone service today.

"More consumers continue to turn to us for the convenience, reliability, simplicity and savings of receiving their local and long distance service from one company: Cox," said David Pugliese, vice president, product management and marketing. "Cox customers can call one number to discuss their cable, high-speed Internet and telephone services needs. None of our competitors can match our full complement of services."

Phone service as part of the company's bundle strategy also cuts customer churn rates in half. Customer churn among two-product video subscribers is 25 percent lower than among video-only subscribers. Among three-product customers, churn is 53 percent lower.

"We're clearly committed to continued roll-outs of Cox Digital Telephone to more customers in markets adjacent to those with our circuit-switched technology," said Pugliese.

Earlier this year Wichita, Kansas became the latest Cox market to offer cable-based local access and long distance services. The company will expand its Kansas footprint to additional cities throughout the year. Cox customers in Tucson, Arizona later this year will have access to Cox's telephone offerings as the company further leverages its switch technology in Phoenix.

Cox continues to explore cost-effective ways to expand its phone service footprint and leverage its existing nationwide IP backbone network, including VoIP technology. White papers on Cox's circuit-switched telephony strategy and VoIP technology are available at www.cox.com/pressroom.
