ATLANTA, Apr 15, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cox Communications, Inc. today announced its achievement of a significant milestone: 1 million residential high-speed Internet access customers in 23 markets across the country.

"This achievement demonstrates the continued success of our Internet service, and highlights the ever-increasing demand for the fast, reliable high-speed Internet access our service delivers," said David Pugliese, Vice President of Sales and New Product Management.

The majority of Cox's 1 million Internet customers are served by Cox's newest service, Cox High Speed Internet(SM), which was launched in December 2001. Cox successfully transitioned over 600,000 former Cox@Home customers to this new service in less than six weeks. Cox High Speed Internet is delivered via Cox's new self-managed Internet Protocol (IP) network, designed to support Cox's residential and commercial Internet customers and to provide the backbone for advanced revenue-generating services Cox will roll out in the future. Cox High Speed Internet offers reliable service, fast speeds and popular features such as enhanced local content and remote, web-based email access.

Cox currently offers three brands of residential high-speed Internet service - Cox High Speed Internet, Road Runner and Cox Express. This year, all of Cox's Road Runner and Cox Express customers will be transitioned to Cox High Speed Internet, allowing Cox to better serve its customers with a unified, consistent high-speed Internet offering. Cox High Speed Internet and Cox's new IP platform is a strong foundation for additional enhancements and features for Cox's Internet customers. For example, Cox is currently conducting technical trials of new offerings such as home networking and tiering.

"Our high-speed Internet service is one of the best values in the marketplace today and offers a product our customers crave. The fact that we have so quickly achieved the milestone of 1 million customers simply confirms the superiority of our broadband connection and points the way for Cox's future growth," said Pugliese.
