ATLANTA- Cox Communications announced today that its digital cable customers in Arizona, Roanoke, Va., Kansas and Middle Georgia will soon have on demand access to hits from ABC and NBC with the addition of MyPrimetime(SM) to Cox's On DEMAND library. Episodes of top ABC and NBC primetime series' will be offered free of charge to Cox Digital Cable customers in the MyPrimetime section of On DEMAND starting the day after they air on the network. In addition, Cox has entered into an agreement with Fox to offer some of its top rated shows in the MyPrimetime category later this summer, beginning with a trial in the company's Orange County operation.
Cox Digital Cable customers will have on demand access to new episodes of ABC hits including Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Samantha Who?, Lost and Ugly Betty and NBC favorites including 30 Rock, American Gladiators, Last Comic Standing and Medium. Episodes will be available on demand the day after they air on their regularly scheduled date and time at no additional cost to digital cable customers and are available for up to 28 days. Additional shows are expected to become available with the launch of the fall season.
"Our digital cable customers' beloved On DEMAND library keeps getting better and better," said David Pugliese, senior vice president of product marketing for Cox Communications. "With the addition of this incredibly popular content, not only can our customers access movies and cable programming favorites any time they choose, they can now watch popular broadcast hits at anytime. We are excited to collaborate with ABC and NBC and look forward to building the MyPrimetime library later this year with Fox hits as well."
Cox commissioned research after the initial launch of MyPrimetime last year and found that 80 percent of users are satisfied with the service and plan to use it again. The most common reasons for viewing MyPrimetime content were to catch up on a missed episode, as an alternative to setting their DVR and to sample shows they haven't seen before, especially shows that are new. In fact one in four respondents stated that if the shows had not been available On DEMAND, they would not have been able to watch them at all.
With On DEMAND from Cox, digital cable customers have access to more than 6000 movies and shows, including high-definition content and exclusive programming, all via the digital receiver. The majority of On DEMAND programming is free and all available with the touch of a button. Customers can watch what they want, when they want by tuning to the On DEMAND library on channel one.
