CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 19, 2001--As part of a $27.9 million contract, Charlotte-based LearningStation, Inc. has been selected as the primary partner and exclusive Application Service Provider (ASP) to Cox Communications Inc. (NYSE: COX), delivering Internet-based educational content and services to all 1,250 Arizona schools.
In what may be the largest undertaking of its kind to date, Arizona is taking an (ASP) approach to delivering educational software and productivity applications to all of its schools statewide.
According to Robert Carter, Vice President and General Manager at Cox Business Services, a division of Cox Communications, "LearningStation was selected as our ASP partner because it is a leader in the delivery of educational software and productivity applications with a selection of over 7,000 best-of-breed titles, videos, and resources. In Arizona, LearningStation will deliver 252 educational content titles, resources, and videos to the state's 850,000 students and 50,000 teachers throughout 1,250 schools."
Dr. Philip Geiger, Executive Director of the Arizona School Facilities Board stated, "The technology provided by LearningStation will enable Arizona students to have a distinct advantage over those in other states. Students and teachers can access their work at anytime from anywhere through any device linked to the Internet. The learning day will be extended, creating a "24/7" virtual classroom. All classrooms in the state - whether in urban or rural communities will have the same tools to accomplish their academic goals." He went on to say, "Through the ASP model, Arizona will offer students and teachers access to programs and technologies that in other cases would cost over $59.00 per student/per year. The ASP delivery model reduces our cost down to $8.03 per student/per year."
Craig Larsen, CEO, LearningStation, Inc. stated, "To have our ASP model selected and implemented in the nations first ever state-wide educational ASP project is a huge stride for the ASP industry. We find ourselves in a time where the education industry is perfectly suited for the rapid adoption of the ASP model. LearningStation's ASP model will prove to be the component that helps states achieve and exceed their education and technology goals. This is just the beginning."
