ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 2001-- Cox Communications, Inc. (NYSE: COX) today announced its plans to deploy Cox Movies-On-Demand (MOD) service for selected customers in Hampton Roads, Va.
Initial deployment of the service will begin during the third quarter 2001.
"We're thrilled to introduce MOD in Hampton Roads to further enhance our customers' television viewing experience," commented Jim Robbins, President and CEO of Cox Communications. "Providing Movies-On-Demand allows us to further leverage our advanced broadband network to provide customers with a differentiated product unavailable with other video providers. It's an important step in reinforcing our commitment to remaining the preferred source for television services in our markets.
"Our customers who have access to MOD are extremely enthusiastic about the service, and understand the potential of this technology to deliver the best television viewing experience available," he added. "We look forward to making it available to more customers."
Cox's MOD service in Hampton Roads will utilize the Motorola DCT2000 set-top, as well as hardware and software provided by Concurrent Computer Corporation. Movie and other content will be provided by iN DEMAND.
Cox's MOD service will feature hundreds of titles, including hit theatrical movies, as well as recent Hollywood classics. Customers will be able to order and instantly view movies, and will be able to pause, fast-forward and rewind movies by using a remote control and existing digital set-top.
