Patrick J. Esser Promoted to Executive Vice President, Operations for Cox Communications

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2001--The promotion of Patrick J. Esser to Executive Vice President of Operations for Cox Communications, Inc., effective February 2, 2001, was announced today by Jim Robbins, President and Chief Executive Officer.

In his new role, Mr. Esser will oversee all cable systems and operational support functions, including marketing, research, customer service, advertising sales and customer support. He also will oversee Cox Business Services.

In making the announcement, Mr. Robbins said, "Pat's demonstrated ability to deliver solid results in several important roles within Cox Communications makes him the ideal person to lead our company's operations. He has done an outstanding job in preparing our systems to aggressively deliver new communications services in a highly competitive environment. In addition, he has a strong background in sales and service, making him further well-rounded to take on this vital mantle of leadership."

Mr. Esser joined Cox in 1979 as Director of Programming for Cox's cable system in Hampton Roads, Virginia. He was named Vice President of Advertising Sales for CableRep, Cox's advertising sales division, in 1991. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations, overseeing Cox systems in Las Vegas, Nevada; Phoenix, Tucson and Sierra Vista, Arizona; and San Diego, Orange County, Palos Verdes, Humboldt, Santa Barbara and Bakersfield, California.

Mr. Esser received the Cable Television Advertising Bureau's President's Award, recognizing his significant contributions to the growth of cable advertising sales. He is co-founder and former member of the board of the Product Information Network. Mr. Esser was instrumental in the development of the industry's leading national spot sales organization, National Cable Communications, and currently serves on the Telecommunications Advisory Board for Compaq. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Mr. Esser holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in communications media.
