Wichita, Kansas - Cox Communications announced today that Janet Barnard has been named senior vice president and general manager of Cox Kansas/Arkansas. She will assume her new role on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010. 

Most recently, Barnard served as senior vice president and general manager of Cox Communications Northern Virginia based in Herndon, Va. There, she was responsible for all Cox operations in Fairfax County including the Fredericksburg region.

“Janet’s more than 22 years of operational expertise, demonstrated leadership experience, knowledge of the business and understanding of the competitive landscape will be key assets as we continue to grow our business and retain our customers in Kansas/Arkansas,” said Jill Campbell, senior vice president of eastern division operations for Cox Communications.

Since 1988, Barnard has worked in a Cox field operations position in a variety of functions including finance and business operations, including regional vice presidencies for Omaha and Middle America Cox, as well as Northern Virginia.

In addition to being a committed business leader, Barnard is also a distinguished and dedicated industry and community leader. She has been recognized by CableFAX as a Top 25 Regional Player as well as one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Cable. Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) named her Woman to Watch and she is a member of Class 20 of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute. She served as a mentor for the WICT Virginia chapter as well as for youth and women in the community and industry.

Barnard is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
