Atlanta, GA – Cox Communications announced today that Bill Fitzsimmons has been promoted to senior vice president of Corporate Finance and Chief Accounting Officer. In this role, Fitzsimmons will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting, financial planning and analysis, annual valuation assessments, internal and external reporting as well as operating and income taxes for Cox.
"Bill has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and made significant contributions to the success of our business," said Mark Bowser, chief financial officer and executive vice president for Cox Communications. "He is often sought after not only for his expertise in the area of finance, but also because of his industry and business acumen."
Fitzsimmons has served in a variety of key positions during his 18-year tenure at the company. He joined Cox in 1993 as director of Finance for the Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach operations and later became vice president of Financial Operations for Cox San Diego. Fitzsimmons has also received recognition within the industry for leading highly complex initiatives.
His leadership roles include serving as a committee member for National Cable & Telecommunications Association Operations and Finance Committee and as a member of the University of Georgia Terry School of Business CFO Roundtable. He is a former chairman of Media Financial Management and a past member of Financial Executives International.
A graduate of Merrimack College in Massachusetts, Fitzsimmons earned a B.S. in business administration and an M.B.A from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He also has completed Harvard University's Executive Management Program.
