Megachurch Delivers Innovative Ministry Programs With Cox Business
Echo Boomers Among Attendees Identifying with New Channels of Worship
San Diego, CA

SAN DIEGO – Rock Church, one of the largest, most innovative churches in the U.S., provides a plethora of rich multimedia content for its attendees, many of whom are Echo Boomers, and Cox Business voice, data and video services are at the heart of it all.

Rock Church is not the average house of worship. On Sundays, the modern church pumps high definition video onto a 90-foot screen in a theater that fills with 3,500 attendees for each of its five services. Rock Church's Web site hosts a variety of audio and video content, including sermons, short messages from the pastor and podcasts.

Through its multimedia presentations and alternative information channels such as Internet video and podcasts, Rock Church is able to reach out to a larger audience. And, with the majority of its parishioners under the age of 30, it's attracting the Echo Boomer generation (children of Baby Boomers, roughly 14 - 30 years old), which responds to technology and the idea of having anytime access to spiritual resources. For example, many will access Rock Church messages remotely while traveling to see family this Easter season.

“Rock Church is a great example of a customer using our network for what it was made for – to make communication easier, faster, more effective and far-reaching,” said Larry Coval, vice president of Cox Business in San Diego. “By leveraging our technology, Rock Church is able to impact a larger and broader audience and fulfill the mission of the organization.”

Cox Business voice, data and video services provide communications capabilities for all Rock Church's operations, including Rock Academy, the church's accredited school that educates children through grade 12.

"Cox has been an important partner of Rock Church for several years," said Miles McPherson, senior pastor, Rock Church. "Technology is a critical component of our ministry as we strive to reach the next generation. When we told Cox we wanted to build the church of the future, they knew exactly what to do."

To meet the growing needs of Rock Church, Cox engineers designed and installed robust fiber optic network infrastructure throughout the 279,000 square foot facility, approximately the same size as Noah's ark in the Bible. The church is served by a 10 Mbps dedicated data connection over fiber that supports the data transfer, phone and Internet needs of Rock Church and Rock Academy faculty and students. All multimedia information that is transmitted to or from the facility moves over Cox's high-speed connection.

The church is currently planning the construction of a professional broadcast studio onsite to produce and distribute live and taped video to homes all over the world.

Cox Business provides a full portfolio of voice, data and video services to more than 200,000 business customers in Cox markets across the U.S., including small businesses, multi-location enterprises, regional healthcare providers and local governments. In 2007, Cox became the first MSO to enter the top tier of U.S. business Ethernet providers, according to Vertical System Group. In 2006, Cox Business received the highest honor in the J.D. Power and Associates Business Data Study for Small/Midsize Businesses.
