Brad Lancaster Named Arizona's 2013 Cox Conserves Hero
Program donates $15,000 to environmental nonprofits in Arizona

PHOENIX, Aug. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications y The Trust for Public Land today announced Brad Lancaster as Arizona's 2013 Cox Conserves Heroes program. As his nonprofit of choice, Desert Harvesters and Green Infrastructure Planning will receive $10,000.

Lancaster lives in Tucson and educates the community on the benefits of rainwater harvesting and planting native, food-bearing shade trees that provide neighbors with fresh, local food products. His annual tree planting events have resulted in 1,500 new trees.

Each of the finalists received $2,500 to donate to their environmental nonprofits of choice:

Melinda Gulick was named Arizona's 2012 Cox Conserves Hero for her long-standing commitment to and passion for Arizona's open space.

The Cox Conserves Heroes program was created in 2008 through a partnership between The Trust for Public Land y Cox Enterprises, the parent company of Cox Communications, to honor environmental volunteers. The program also runs in Atlanta, Louisiana, Orange County (Calif.), San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Virginia. More than $300,000 has been donated to local nonprofits and more than 100 volunteers have been honored through the Cox Conserves Heroes program.
