Cox Communications Kicks Off Plan to Offer Residential Gigabit Speeds
Phoenix, Las Vegas, Omaha chosen as first markets

ATLANTA, 22 de mayo de 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications today announced the company's plans to roll-out gigabit Internet speeds across its markets nationwide. The company will start with new residential construction projects and new and existing neighborhoods in Phoenix, Las Vegas y Omaha. In all Cox locations, the company will begin market-wide deployment of gigabit speeds by the end of 2016.

"We are excited about our road map to offer gigabit speeds to all of our residential customers," said Cox Communications President Pat Esser. "Starting today, we will begin deploying new technology and infrastructure that will give customers the choice of gigabit speeds in all markets we serve."

In addition to offering gigabit service to neighborhoods, Cox will offer gigabit speeds to units in select new condominiums and apartments and Wi-Fi will be available in common areas of the developments.

The company also announced the expansion of Cox's Wi-Fi service to the Phoenix Metropolitan area and the Greater Las Vegas area. This announcement follows the company's recent Wi-Fi launch in Omaha. Additionally, through the company's partnerships with other cable companies, Cox customers can access more than 250,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the country as they travel.

As Cox begins its deployment of gigabit service to new residential developments, the company also said it will double the speeds on its most popular tiers of internet service for all customers this year. Cox High Speed Internet Preferred will increase from 25 megabits per second to 50 megabits per second. Cox High Speed Internet Premier will increase from 50 megabits per second to 100 megabits per second. These tiers represent more than 70 percent of Cox's high-speed internet customers. Over the last 12 years, Cox has increased broadband speeds 800 percent.

"Cox has been the digital communications leader in our markets over the past two decades, leading on speed, availability and customer choice and working to continually improve broadband for all customers," said Esser. "We will continue to invest in our network and our product capabilities to help our customers connect to the things they care about most."

In the last 10 years, Cox has invested more than $15 mil millones in its communities through infrastructure upgrades to deliver video, phone and high-speed Internet service to homes and businesses in the company's service area.
