Channel 2 WSB-TV and The Trust For Public Land Celebrate Volunteers Through 2014 Cox Conserves Heroes Program
Program seeking nominations for environmental volunteers; $15,000 to be donated to nonprofits in Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA, 15 de julio de 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Channel 2 WSB-TV y The Trust for Public Land today launched Atlanta's 2014 Cox Conserves Heroes program. Nominations are being accepted for volunteers who are creating, preserving or enhancing outdoor spaces through 19 de agosto en http://www.wsbtv.com/coxconservesheroes.

A total of $15,000 will be donated to local environmental nonprofits on behalf of the winner and finalists.

A judging panel will select three finalists who will then compete through online voting to be named Atlanta's 2014 Cox Conserves Hero. The winner will receive $10,000 to donate to his or her selected nonprofit beneficiary. The finalists each will receive $2,500 for their nonprofits of choice.

Nominee activities must be performed on a volunteer basis and may not be part of one's paid job.

Atlanta's 2014 Cox Conserves Heroes Timeline:

This is the sixth year the Cox Conserves Heroes program has taken place in Atlanta. The previous recipients of Atlanta's Cox Conserves Heroes award are John Gordon, Donna Shearer, Na'Taki Osborne-Jelks, Angel Poventud y Don Wells.

Financial support from Cox Conserves Heroes has helped create community gardens, build trails, plant trees, provide environmental education, maintain parks, as well as create outdoor classrooms and certified wildlife habitats at area schools throughout Metro Atlanta.

The following Metro Atlanta organizations have received financial support from the Cox Conserves Heroes program: Elachee Nature Science Center, Friends of English Avenue, Georgia Organics, Historic Fourth Ward Park Conservancy, Johns Creek Community Wildlife Habitat, Keeping It Wild, Kirkwood Neighbors Organization, Mountain Stewards, Park Pride, R.E.D.E.E.M Community Outreach, Save Georgia's Hemlocks, Sustainable Norcross, Trees Atlantay el West Atlanta Watershed Alliance.

The Cox Conserves Heroes program was created through a partnership between The Trust for Public Land y Cox Enterprises, the parent company of Channel 2 WSB-TV, to honor everyday volunteers. Through the Cox Conserves Heroes program, nearly $400,000 has been donated to environmental nonprofits and more than 130 volunteers have been recognized.
